MotoGP testing: Maverick Vinales fastest – Full report and results

Maverick Vinales finished today’s test in P1 overall whilst teammate Valentino Rossi tested a new exhaust and chassis. Fabio Quartararo spent the day doing his best Toprak Razgatlıoğlu impressions.

MotoGP’s own testing champion, Maverick Vinales, found himself at the top of the timesheets overall, despite a crash late on into the testing session, leading the session with a time of 1’31.532, not far from the lap record. He was joined in the sub 1:31’s by Takaaki Nakagami who got to test Stefan Bradl’s 2020 Honda for the first time and Johann Zarco, all three riders suffered incidents with Nakagami also crashing and Zarco somehow damaging his fairings in the pit lane.

KTM’s Pol Espargaro was the fourth fastest rider with a best time of 1’32.054 which was set in the morning’s session, Alex Rins and Joan Mir tested a new swingarm today and ended in 5th and sixth respectively, continuing their form of this season.

The Ducati pair of Francesco Bagnaia and Andrea Dovizioso were next up in seventh and eighth with neither of them setting a time in the second session. The top 10 was rounded off by Fabio Quartararo then Brad Binder with a time of 1’32.453 in the second session on the KTM.

Rossi testing Yamaha’s new exhaust

Valentino Rossi was Yamaha’s ‘test mule’ today, trying out a new exhaust and chassis, saying the exhaust did not make much of a difference, ending the day in P17 overall.

Various riders including Fabio Quartararo also tested the new radio communications system which allows race direction to speak directly to riders.
