Aprilia confirms WSBK return with 5 wildcard races in 2020
It was confirmed this morning that Italian manufacturer will make a WSBK return for the first time since 2018 season with the help of NuovaM2 privately run project.
When World Superbike racing resumes in Jerez at the end of July, we will have six manufacturers on the grid, as Ducati, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Honda and BMW will be joined by Aprilia, who will contest their first race since Qatar 2018. The project will be run by Italian NuovaM2 squad, who is a longtime Aprilia partner in Italian Superbike Championship (CIV), they will field 24-year old French rider Christophe Ponsson on an RSV4 1000. Despite his young age, Ponsson is no stranger to WSBK, as he contested 26 races during 2015 season, while also competing in MotoGP at the Misano round in 2018 for the Avintia Ducati team.
It was also confirmed that Ponsson and NuovaM2 squad will contest five races of 2020 WSBK season, as they plan to contest in Jerez, Portimao, Aragon, new addition Catalunya and Ponsson’s home round in Magny Cours.
