Italian Lorenzo Gabellini to ride in WSBK in place of Jordi Torres

2019 Italian Supersport Champion Lorenzo Gabellini has been announced as the replacement for Jordi Torres in WSBK for MIE Racing

Jordi Torres is unable to race due to commitments in MotoE meaning there are clashing of race dates, therefore Italian Lorenzo Gabellini will step in alongside Takumi Takahashi for Round 2, scheduled at Jerez de la Frontera (Spain) on the weekend of 31 July and 1-2 August.

The 21-year-old Italian SSP600 champion of 2019 is already part of the Althea Racing Team in the 2020 Italian Superbike championship. In the first round, which took place at the Mugello circuit on the weekend of 4 and 5 July, Lorenzo brought his CBR1000RR-R home to two top 5 finishes.

Gabellini has said the following – “Getting to the World Superbike World Championship was my dream since I was a child, obviously now I am very happy and excited that this has come true, I have to thank Genesio Bevilacqua and Midori Moriwaki. This opportunity came unexpectedly but I am ready to work hard and grow in the MIE Racing Althea Honda Team and with Honda. It’s a great challenge that I can’t wait to face “.
