Moto3 Catalunya FP2: Gabriel Rodrigo goes top in FP2

Gabriel Rodrigo leads a warmer Moto3 FP2 session.

Gabriel Rodrigo lead a much warmer FP2 session in Moto3 with the air and track temperatures massively heating up as the day goes by enabling riders to have more grip on track and lower their lap times in the process. Rodrigo was the fastest man beating Sergio Garcia’s lap time from FP1 by half a second setting a new lap record in the process, normally a great achievement if it wasn’t for the fact that it’s a new layout rending this stat useless.

Darryn Binder was the second-fastest rider only 0.078 seconds off Rodrigo massively improving on his P26 from this morning, the South African is eyeing up a Moto2 move for 2022 and will need a podium here to put him back into title contention.

Romano Fenati was the third-fastest man ahead of rookie Izan Guevara, Guevara returns to a track he has experience on and finished this mornings FP1 session in P2 and has backed this up with a P4 this afternoon, the Spanish rider is one of the favourites for the race win this weekend despite only being a rookie, he finishes just 0.034 seconds ahead of Ayumu Sasaki who took the P5 spot.

It was Jeremy Alcoba who finished in P6, the Spanish rider only 0.007 seconds from Sasaki and also hunting down podium glory, he won a race here back in 2019 and knows he can perform on his Gresini Honda. Andrea Migno and Tatsuki Suzuki were 7th and 8th leading Stefano Nepa who is another rider showing some promise, his BOE Owlride squad picked up a podium earlier this season in Le Mans thanks to his teammate Riccardo Rossi, now it is Nepa’s turn.

Niccolo Antonelli rounds off the top 10 as Pedro Acosta finishes in P13.
