Moto3 Austria FP2: Darryn Binder doubles up

Darryn Binder doubles up on his P1 in FP1 to lead Friday outright.

Darryn Binder takes P1 in the FP2 Moto3 session as the top four are split by a minuscule 0.098 seconds, the Petronas SRT rider has impressed last weekend and this weekend with his consistently strong lap times which have been consistent with the leading riders, especially during the Styrian Grand Prix, if the South African can secure himself a top 10 qualifying position there’s every chance he can fight for the win on Sunday. He leads last time out winner Pedro Acosta by only 0.057 seconds with Binder’s teammate John McPhee in third only 0.002 seconds off Acosta, making Acosta the filling of a Petronas sandwich.

In a fourth place only 0.039 seconds back was Dennis Foggia, the Italian showing some decent improvement after his struggles last weekend here in Styria with last time poleman Deniz Oncu in fifth place, the Turkish rider another rider showing strong signs of improvement leading Tatsuki Suzuki in P6.

Gabriel Rodrigo and Ayumu Sasaki were followed by an Aspar duo rounding off the top 10 with Sergio Garcia leading his rookie teammate Izan Guevara by a mere 0.030 seconds, Guevara making some solid improvements recently but has a tendency to fall back down the pack during the races.

Only a handful of riders improved their times due to the threat of rain in the session leaving Jeremy Alcoba, Jaume Masia and Riccardo Rossi in the Q1 spots.
