MotoGP Mugello Qualifying: Fabio Quartararo makes it four in a row
Fabio Quartararo has blasted his way to pole position in Mugello.
Fabio Quartararo takes the pole position watch in Mugello with his fourth of the season so far after smashing the lap record by a staggering 0.269 seconds, the Frenchman showed off his incredible pace which seems to follow him to every track this year hitting his markers in every corner to put in a lap described by the rider as the best of his career, it was a stunning lap and could be exactly what he needs to take victory tomorrow and break the streak of Ducati who have won here for the last three seasons.
It’s not going to be easy for the 22-year-old with 3 Ducati’s joining him in the top 5 and two joining him on the front row with Francesco Bagnaia being crowned the fastest Ducati man. Despite breaking his own lap record set this morning Bagnaia was unable to get anywhere near the insane pace of Quartararo taking P2 0.230 seconds off the pole man with Johann Zarco joining the duo on the front row. Zarco and Bagnaia are staring down the barrel of their first-ever MotoGP race wins as Zarco takes P3 with only 0.015 seconds to Bagnaia ahead of him, the duo will almost certainly make it difficult for Quartararo tomorrow.
It was so close but so far for Aleix Espargaro, Aleix Espargaro had his name on a front row start before the Ducati’s ruined his party relegating the Aprilia man down to P4, it’s not the end of the world for the Aprilia man with a possible podium on the line for him tomorrow after coming through Q1 leading Jack Miller in P5. KTM are doing bits this weekend with Brad Binder and Miguel Oliveira in P6 and P7, they are running different fuel this weekend and have seemingly found something which is making them tick as the riders take their best results of the year so far just ahead of the Suzuki boys.
Alex Rins and Joan Mir once again find themselves in the lower end of the top 10 as normal, will they ever get over their qualifying demons? Probably not.
Franco Morbidelli rounded off the top 10 ahead of the Repsol Honda duo with Marc Marquez coming through Q2 after following Maverick Vinales around like a caravan, he stuck tightly to the tail of the Yamaha man getting a tow, this tow would prove to be vital with Marquez’s time being better than Vinales’ who was eventually demoted to P13 thanks to Aleix Espargaro.
