Moto2: Tetsuta Nagashima will not race in 2021

28-year-old Tetsuta Nakashima will not race in 2021 after losing his Moto2 seat.

Tetsuta Nagashima will stop racing in 2021 to focus on himself and a racing return for 2022. The Japanese rider was the 2016 CEV Moto2 runner up to Steven Odendaal riding for the Ajo Motorsport team and has spent much of his Moto2 World Championship career flip-flopping between teams riding for the SAG team in 2017 and 2019, riding for the Honda Team Asia team in 2018 before his SAG return.

He moved to the Red Bull KTM Ajo team for 2020 once again pairing up with Ajo and instantly impressed at Qatar by winning the race against all odds before backing this up with a podium in the season restart at Jerez. Unfortunately, he was unable to replicate these results for the rest of the season and only took 2 more top 10 finishes despite his opening season form with a P4 in Styria and a P9 at Aragon, the rest of the season he lingered outside of the top 10 and sadly did not perform to the high expectation set by Ajo.

With all the 2021 Moto2 grid slots filled he was shunned from the paddock and made a statement on social media saying, “The end of the year is approaching, isn’t it? Thank you so much for all your support this season.

As for 2021, we will not participate in the race. I started racing at the age of 3 and was able to participate in the world championship which I had dreamed of, and I was able to experience the victory, pole, and podium, thanks to everyone’s support. I will do my best to get stronger, faster, better and come back, so I look forward to your continued support. We hope you all have a good year. Tetsuta Nagashima.”
