Jorge Martin given 3-Place grid penalty for MotoGP Dutch Grand Prix
Jorge Martin has been given a 3-place grid penalty for the Dutch Grand Prix at Assen on Sunday, after impeding Raul Fernandez.
After initially qualifying in second place on the grid for the Dutch Grand Prix, Jorge Martin has been hit with a 3-place penalty for impeding Trackhouse Aprilia’s Raul Fernandez between Turns 3-5.
With Martin slowing after one of his push laps, the Pramac Ducati rider was riding slow into the opening few corners, with Fernandez catching up between Turns 2-3, and Martin being seen riding wide at Turn 4 as Fernandez got underneath the Spaniard.
The pair even make light contact at Turn 5, with Martin running slightly into the back of Fernandez, after the Trackhouse Aprilia rider aborted his lap. This will now promote Maverick Vinales to second, Alex Marquez to third and Aleix Espargaro to fourth with Martin slotting into the middle of the second row on the grid.
With just 15 points separating Francesco Bagnaia and Jorge Martin, and with Bagnaia’s absolute domination in the Assen Sprint race, the championship lead that Martin currently has, could be set to have a dramatic cut.
However, with Enea Bastianini showcasing what his Ducati could do, going from 11th to 4th in the Sprint race, Martin will be pushing to recover to the podium places early into the race.
