MotoGP to return to the Brno Circuit for Czech GP in 2025 after new deal

MotoGP will officially return to the Brno Circuit for the Czech Grand Prix in a new deal that sees Brno on the MotoGP calendar until 2029.

Brno had initially lost it’s place on the MotoGP calendar at the end of the 2020 season, due to fears about the track’s condition with grip levels, with the FIM suggesting the track be resurfaced with fresh tarmac. However, unfortunately the iconic MotoGP venue would fall by the wayside due to insufficient funds to be able to resurface the track.

The previous owners, Ex-MotoGP rider Karel Abraham’s family, sold the circuit in 2023 to Karel Hubacek. Over the last year, there were rumours that the track would be redeveloped for housing purposes, however the circuit has been saved by Hubacek’s company called “Shakai”. With Shakai and also Czech bank “Creditas” assistance, the Brno circuit will now feature once again on the MotoGP calendar.

Brno has played host to many iconic moments in MotoGP history, including Valentino Rossi’s first ever victory back in 1996 in the 125cc class. 2012 would also be an iconic race at Brno between Dani Pedrosa and Jorge Lorenzo, with Pedrosa going ahead of Lorenzo after a race-long duel to take victory.

The news has evidently delighted MotoGP fans online, with comments on MotoGP’s official Instagram account such as: “We love it, thank you MotoGP!” and “Awesome news!” – clearly, this circuit is a fan favourite amongst MotoGP fans and in an era where attendance figures have been on a decline in certain countries for MotoGP, this is a major step in the right direction for the series.
