Bastianini Wins MotoGP British GP Sprint Race as Francesco Bagnaia and Marc Marquez Crash out

Enea Bastianini Won the MotoGP Sprint at Silverstone as Francesco Bagnaia and Marc Marquez both crashed out of the race.

Jorge Martin would steal the lead from Aleix Espargaro, as Espargaro battled with Francesco Bagnaia in the opening corners. Enea Bastianini would also come through on the pair of them at Turn 6 and Turn 7, as Marc Marquez ran fifth.

On the first corner, it appeared that Franco Morbidelli’s Prima Pramac Ducati had a ride height device problem, throwing the Italian to the ground and violently collecting Marco Bezzecchi. Both riders remained conscious, but were taken to the medical centre.

Pedro Acosta and Brad Binder would come together at the beginning of Lap 2, with Acosta losing his left wingplate. Marc Marquez would attempt to get a double overtake on the pair of them, with Acosta fighting back on the exit of Turn 4. However, Marquez would complete his move after Acosta struggled to get his KTM stopped at Turn 5.

Francesco Bagnaia would dramatically retire from the Sprint Race after his Ducati suddenly gave out from underneath him on entry to Turn 4, the Italian now losing his 10-point lead in the championship completely.

After a few laps running behind Martin, Bastianini would duel with the Spaniard and eventually took the lead of the race with just five laps remaining. Aleix Espargaro ran right behind the pair as he looked to get involved in the fight for the lead.

With just a few laps remaining, Marc Marquez would lose his bike, crashing in the final corners of Lap 8, as the Ducati’s seemed to struggle with the slower speed chicanes and trail-braking, with three Ducati’s crashing out of the race.

Enea Bastianini would come home to take victory in the British GP Sprint Race, with Jorge Martin and Aleix Espargaro rounding out the podium, as multiple Ducati’s dropped out of the race.
