MotoGP British GP Preview, Session Times and Where to Watch?

MotoGP makes it’s long-awaited return after the summer break, for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. In this article, you can find out each session time and where you can watch all the action this weekend!

The last few rounds of the MotoGP championship, have seen Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia dominate and take back-to-back victories. Bagnaia currently leads the World Championship with 222 points, with Jorge Martin just 10 points down. As we come into the second half of the season, all is still to play for, as Bagnaia looks to defend his reigning champion status, and Martin looks to take his first ever MotoGP Premier class title.

Just before the summer break, multiple rider transfers were announced. Marco Bezzecchi and Jorge Martin will be departing VR46 Ducati and Pramac Ducati respectively, with the pair joining the Factory Aprilia team starting next season. Marc Marquez will join the Factory Ducati team alongside Bagnaia, a shocking move that has equally seen admiration and criticism by many.

Enea Bastianini will be replaced at Ducati by Marquez, and therefore he will join the Red Bull GasGas KTM team, along with Maverick Vinales who will leave Aprilia. Aleix Espargaro also leaves Aprilia, the Spaniard announcing his retirement before the Catalan GP.

Elsewhere, Pedro Acosta will join the Red Bull Factory KTM squad, with Jack Miller departing at the end of the season. It is currently unclear as to where Miller will ride in 2025, with the main rumour circulating that he will join the World Superbikes grid. Therefore, it’s been an incredibly busy couple of months for MotoGP, with a lot of riders potentially in their farewell season or coming to the end of their Factory rides, many riders will be looking to impress in the back half of this season.

The Silverstone Circuit

18 Turns, 8 to the right and 10 to the left, riders who are ambidextrous are usually incredibly fast around this challenging circuit which has multiple high speed sections, some technical areas and a lot of flowing overtaking zones.

The opening sector will be the most favourable place for battles to ensue and overtakes to be seen, a flowing opening four corners allows for riders to run multiple lines on the offensive and defensive, leading to a long straight before a long right-hander hairpin, riding onto the old pit straight.

There are so many overtaking zones, that the Silverstone circuit lends itself to large cars for overtaking, let alone these nimble motorcycles. Riders will therefore have to be careful not to be taken offline and lose momentum, as they could end up losing multiple positions.

Can Anyone stop Francesco Bagnaia?

Francesco Bagnaia has won the last few MotoGP races back-to-back. Last time out, at the Sachsenring, Jorge Martin looked like he would take a comfortable and somewhat dominant victory, before crashing out on the penultimate lap of the race. A brutal defeat for Martin, and another massive points haul for the reigning champion of Bagnaia.

Bagnaia leads Martin in the championship by just 10 points, with a lot to play for in the rest of the season. However, fresh from the summer break, Martin will want to take the British GP to re-establish his stranglehold over the championship, and take it straight back from Bagnaia.
