Moto3 Qatar FP1: Dennis Foggia blasts his way into P1
Dennis Foggia has started the season as he means to go on, in P1.
Moto3’s title favourite and 2021 runner up Dennis Foggia has stamped his mark on the lightweight class already leading Andrea Migno in second place by nearly a full second. Foggia nearly won the championship last year in the Moto3 series and closed up a huge gap to Pedro Acosta in the championship standings, sadly for the Italian it wasn’t to be but he’s back this year to make it count.
It was exactly 0.970 seconds between the Italian duo of Dennis Foggia and Andrea Migno in the top spots of the Moto3 class in FP1, the class re-learning their way around the circuit after a 12 month absence from Lusail, in third place we saw Carlos Tatay springboard his way to the front, he’s made the switch from Avintia to the PrustelGP CFMoto squad and it looks to have been the right step for his career after impressing in pre-season testing and translating that into results in Free Practice.
Tatsuki Suzuki is another who’s jumped up the order following a team move with the Japanese rider now racing in the Le0pard colours and coming home in P4 1.406 seconds to his teammate in P1 with his replacement at SIC58 Riccardo Rossi finishing in fifth, Rossi another rider who’s been able to show his pace in a new team. He and his teammate Alberto Surra sandwiched in Alberto Surra in P6 with Fellon in P7.
Rounding out the top 10 were the Red Bull KTM Ajo riders of Jaume Masia then Daniel Holgado who has finished up as the fastest rookie despite a broken leg over the winter months, ex-Red Bull KTM Ajo rider Kaito Toba placed in P10.
Some notable names are Diogo Moreira in P17 and Joel Kelso in P20 with Moto3 title favourite Sergio Garcia coming home in a disappointing P19.
