WorldSBK Argentina Superpole: Scott Redding takes shocking pole position

Scott Redding takes pole position in his debut at the Circuito San Juan Villicum.

Scott Redding took his first WorldSBK pole position since Jerez 2020 handing himself a grand opportunity to be able to gain some strong championship points on rivals Razgatlıoğlu and Rea later on today in race one at the Argentine circuit.

It was a yellow flagged session with the top spot changing hands between the three title leaders with Razgatlıoğlu robbing Rea with nine minutes to go before Redding stuck in his time to stop the Toprak dominance after he led every session of the weekend so far. We didn’t get the chance to see a real battle for the pole position timepiece with Tati Mercado crashing late on into the session and voiding all chances of improvement for the riders aiming for the front row, it did however mean that we got to see the rapid Axel Bassani take his first-ever front row start in the championship, he has been impressing all year long on the Ducati and this is another example of how good he is.

Joining the Ducati duo of Redding and Bassani on the front row was Toprak Razgatlıoğlu who made it into second place, he’s been blisteringly fast all weekend long and there’s no doubt that if he can make his way into the top spot early on into the race it’ll be his to lose, Redding will be doing all he can to be able to stop Toprak getting away.

Leading the second row were the KRT boys of Alex Lowes then Jonathan Rea in fifth, the pair are going to be pushing their hardest to take championship points off Toprak Razgatlıoğlu during the race. Toprak leads the standings by 24 points and if he is beaten by both Kawasaki riders a minimum of 9 points will be taken from him, it will be interesting to see how race one unfolds! Joining these two on row two was birthday boy Andrea Locatelli.

Michael van der Mark was the seventh fastest rider on row three leading Garrett Gerloff and Michael Ruben Rinaldi, Gerloff will be one to watch this weekend after impressing in the free practice sessions, rounding out the top 10 was Leon Haslam with returnee Chaz Davies in P13.
