Moto3 COTA FP3: Jaume Masia leads into qualifying
Jaume Masia was the fastest Moto3 man heading into qualifying.
Jaume Masia was the quickest Moto3 rider heading into qualifying later today leading an Italian dominated top 10, Masia was able to put in a time worthy of P1 only 0.186 seconds quicker than Stefano Nepa in second place who has been extremely impressive on occasion this year riding for the BOE Owlride team to come home in second, he goes straight through to Q2 and could be a threat for the podium tomorrow if he can qualify well, he finished ahead of an Italian duo of Dennis Foggia and Niccolo Antonelli, both riders have found a lot of form very recently with Foggia closing in massively in the championship.
Fifth place is Xavier Artigas who makes his COTA debut this weekend and has instantly adapted to the circuit running at the top of the timesheets throughout the free practice sessions coming home in a Q2 spot today ahead of Romano Fenati and Jeremy Alcoba who improved from the bottom end of the timesheets to lock in a Q2 place, a really impressive recovery from the Spanish rider finishing just ahead of Andrea Migno who’s bike spent much of the time in the pits following a mechanical issue.
Rounding out the top 10 were Filip Salac and Deniz Oncu who has been confirmed to race for the Tech3 team again for 2022 alongside rookie Daniel Holgado, joining the pair in Q2 are Pedro Acosta, Izan Guevara, Ayumu Sasaki and Tatsuki Suzuki.
Riders who failed to progress include Alberto Surra who missed out by a tiny 0.014 seconds, also confirmed to Snipers for 2022, John McPhee, possible MotoGP bound Darryn Binder and Carlos Tatay.
