Moto2 COTA FP3: Raul Fernandez leads yet again

Raul Fernandez takes the hat trick of P1’s leading FP3 at COTA.

Raul Fernandez leads FP3 today following his P1’s in FP1 and FP2 yesterday at a track he had never seen before in Moto2, he instantly has been competitive and is aiming to take some more points back from his teammate Remy Gardner in the Moto2 World Championship title fight between the pair with Fernandez chipping away race by race to lower Gardner’s lead to just 34 points which includes two DNF’s from Fernandez in 2021. The pair have been on fire all year long and are showing no signs of slowing down taking a 1-2 in FP3 heading into qualifying.

In third place was Gresini’s Fabio Diggia who shot up the timesheets later on to take a Q2 spot ahead of fellow rookie Ai Ogura in fourth place who briefly led the session before the time attack began and every rider pushed to improve their time, he led a Marc VDS duo with Augusto Fernandez rounding out the top 5 ahead of teammate Sam Lowes in sixth place who has previously taken victory here.

Home hero Cameron Beaubier goes directly into Q2, his advantage of knowing the track incredibly well means he has been strong all weekend long finishing only 0.724 seconds back from P1 with the pace to get a really strong position on tomorrows grid, he beat Marco Bezzecchi by a finite margin of 0.005 seconds with a Boscoscuro trio of Aron Canet, Albert Arenas and Jorge Navarro finishing just behind the VR46 rider joined by Simone Corsi and the two Petronas boys in Q2.

Forced to go via Q1 are Marcel Schrotter, Marcos Ramirez, Tony Arbolino who started his weekend strong and Joe Roberts.
