Moto3: Joel Kelso to step up to World Championship with the CIP Team
Australian rider Joel Kelso will race in the Moto3 World Championship for 2022.
Joel Kelso will make the step up to the Moto3 World Championship for 2022 with the CIP Team alongside experienced rider Kaito Toba on a KTM. The move follows an impressive FIM CEV Moto3 Junior World Championship season which has seen Joel take his first pole position and victory in the class at Portimao with the AGR team.
The young Australian rider has gone from strength to strength since he moved across to Europe completely alone at just 16-years-old to race in the Italian CIV Pre-Moto3 and full-Moto3 classes scoring podium finishes racing for the MTA team before they combined with Le0pard. Eventually, the AGR squad would pick him up and run him in the CEV for 2020 and 2021 arriving where we are now.
In the 2021 season Joel also made his World Championship debut with the CIP team at Sachsenring, he was thrown completely in the deep end with a bike completely different to his FIM CEV KTM forcing him to learn and adapt each session, he was able to impress the team enough to reward him with a ride for 2022 after running just outside the points at Assen before being forced to complete a ride through penalty.
Joel Kelso: “I’m super excited, I can’t wait for the challenge and the things ahead, obviously it’ll be tough and difficult but we will keep chipping away over the season. My expectations are to give 110% and see where we end up, I think we can arrive in the points, my goal is to get top 10’s but we have to be realistic and gauge the situation when the season starts. My first goal is to score my first World Championship points.”
