Moto2 Silverstone FP3: Aron Canet leads into qualifying with new lap record
Aron Canet ends FP3 in P1 overall as we head into qualifying.
Aron Canet has blasted his way past the Kalex competition to lead the way heading into qualifying on his Boscoscuro machinery setting a brand new lap record in the process, the Spanish rider pummelled the competition with third place Jorge Navarro a huge 0.330 seconds back in FP3, handing Canet a nice buffer to really push in qualifying emerging as the strongest Boscoscuro rider despite Navarro leading the Boscoscuro boys in FP1 and FP2. Just behind Canet was title leader Remy Gardner only 0.039 seconds behind him also under the previous lap record set by Alex Marquez in 2019.
Fabio Di Giannantonio went fourth fastest in FP3 ahead of fellow Italian Marco Bezzecchi, Bezzecchi has recovered from a tricky weekend to secure himself a Q2 spot heading into qualifying ahead of Raul Fernandez then Joe Roberts. Joe Roberts has struggled for most of the season in his new Italtrans team however this Q2 spot bodes really well for the American overall in P9. Another rider making a surprising entrance in Q2 is Niccolo Bulega who finished in P10 overall with 16-year-old Fermin Aldeguer occupying the final Q2 spot in his first time at Silverstone, really impressive for the rookie.
Going through Q1 we have plenty of top names including last time podium finisher Ai Ogura, Cameron Beaubier, Xavi Vierge and Tony Arbolino.
