Moto2 Assen FP2: Hector Garzo sets the pace in the wet
Hector Garzo was the fastest Moto2 rider leading the wet FP2 session.
Hector Garzo took command of a wet FP2 session after some impressive early speed from Aron Canet who would fire himself into the top positions forcing the rest of the field to play catch up. Garzo and Augusto Fernandez lead the way being split by only 0.034 seconds before putting nearly half a second to Nicolo Bulega in third place.
Canet would eventually find himself in fourth place on the Boscoscuro Aspar machine with the bike proving to go well around here ahead of Joe Roberts who occupied the fifth-place position then Sam Lowes. Lowes massively improved on his position from this morning when he finished way outside of the top 10 whilst his teammate led, it’s clear that one side of the garage is performing much better at the Dutch track with Lowes benefitting from a wet session today.
Following Lowes is the Petronas Duo of Jake Dixon and Xavi Vierge in that order, Dixon is chasing a good result desperately to ensure he gets the chance to move to MotoGP next year with his teammate Vierge outscoring the British rider.
Italian duo Marco Bezzecchi and Fabio Di Giannantonio rounded off the top 10 as Manuel Gonzalez made his debut, the young Spaniard is a European Talent Cup and SSP300 champion and currently rides in World Supersport and is impressing many in his second season, he comes to Assen replacing the injured Lorenzo Baldassarri and finished in P13 in his first session on the MV ahead of teammate Simone Corsi after missing FP1.
It was a tough session for the Red Bull KTM boys with Remy Gardner down in P18 and Raul Fernandez in P23 (his old number), some data analysis required to see where they can go fast if the race is wet tomorrow!
