Moto3 Catalunya FP3 Combined: Stefano Nepa leads the way heading into qualifying
Stefano Nepa takes a rare P1 overall in FP3.
Stefano Nepa was the fastest man in the FP3 session this morning snatching the lap record and a tow from Gabriel Rodrigo who is looking strong enough to take home another consecutive podium this weekend after taking his first since 2018 last time out in Mugello. Nepa is quite an underrated rider and showed many flashes of form last year whilst riding for Aspar, he could be a podium contender this weekend so keep your eye out.
He led Gabriel Rodrigo overall by just 0.048 seconds after taking a tow from him to the line, the third-placed rider was Japanese rider Tatsuki Suzuki, Suzuki is showing some form this weekend after taking 3 DNF’s out of 6 races this year. He said before the season that this will be his last in Moto3 and hopes to move to Moto2, if he wants this ride he will need to pick up some solid results to convince some teams to hire him for 2022.
Deniz Oncu finished the combined times in fourth overall ahead of Darryn Binder, both riders showing flashes of speed this year but haven’t been able to consistently show us what they’ve got but we all know they are fast. Just 0.003 behind Binder we see Romano Fenati on the Husqvarna, both he and teammate Fernandez have been able to get directly into Q2 later on with Fernandez near the drop zone in P13. Niccolo Antonelli and Jeremy Alcoba were next up with Ayumu Sasaki rounding off the top 10.
Izan Guevara was the last rider who got into the Q2 session, this means that many incredibly talented riders will be forced to go via Q1, this includes Sergio Garcia (P15), Jaume Masia (P16), Andrea Migno (P17), Pedro Acosta (P19) and more!
