Moto2 Jerez FP2: Sam Lowes back on top in Jerez

Sam Lowes returns to P1 at Jerez in FP2.

Following from his crash in Portimao which lost him a possible 25 points Sam Lowes has struck back in Jerez leading Friday’s timesheets at a circuit he knows and very much likes, instantly showing some good results last year in his debuts for the Marc VDS team here after missing Qatar, he will have some tough competition though if we look at the top five of the FP2 session, he leads Remy Gardner by 0.259 seconds as the duo go head to head in the battle for the Moto2 title with Remy taking over from Lowes at the top.

It was an English speaking top four with Jake Dixon finishing in third and Joe Roberts P4, a quadrette of riders from the USA, UK and Australia, all hungry and eager to battle to take home the crown.

Rapid rookie Raul Fernandez finished in fifth place, he took his first win in Moto2 last time out in Portimao in just his third ever Grand Prix start, this is quite the achievement for the Spanish rider, beating Marc Marquez’s record of a Moto2 win in his fourth race, the pair beaten by Maverick Vinales who won at COTA in his second ever start.

The Gresini duo of Nicolo Bulega and Fabio Diggia placed in P6 and P7 with the team now under new management from Gresini’s family members. Xavi Vierge bested Marco Bezzecchi to P9 as Augusto Fernandez rounded off the top 10.

Further down we see last time podium finisher Aron Canet in P18 and Cameron Beaubier struggling in P28.
