MotoGP BREAKING NEWS: Andrea Dovizioso confirms 2021 sabbatical
After relentless rumours, Andrea Dovizioso has finally confirmed his 2021 plans.
Andrea Dovizioso has confirmed he will take a sabbatical for the 2021 season after turning down Yamaha, KTM, Ducati, Honda and Aprilia roles as either a test rider or full-time rider and was even linked to Suzuki at one point.
As tensions grew with Ducati, Dovizioso became angrier and angrier at the situation, finally snapping in Austria after Ducati gave him a time frame to prove results, in response, he announced he will not continue with Ducati and even flipped them the bird during his race win celebrations at the Austrian GP.
He will now step back for 2021 with plans to return in 2022 with a team which he feels shares his morals.
He said in a statement on social media, “THIS IS WHAT I’M GOING TO DO IN 2021 – Over the last few months, I have received several offers to work as a test rider in developing MotoGP projects and I am grateful for the consideration received by the manufacturers. However, I have decided not to make any commitments and to remain free from formal agreements for now.
I have an immense passion for racing. I still have the ambition to compete and fight to win. I will return to MotoGP as soon as I find a project driven by the same passion and ambition that I have and within an organization that shares my same objectives, values and working methods.
Now I am focused on finishing the World Championship in the best possible way, and I have already started developing some projects with my partners.”
