MotoGP: Andrea Dovizioso rumoured to take 2021 sabbatical
It is heavily rumoured that Andrea Dovizioso, who leaves Ducati will have a 2021 sabbatical.
Andrea Dovizioso publically ended his relationship with Ducati in August this year, a relationship which started in 2013 with 14 wins so far.
Dovizioso has held talks with Honda, KTM, Aprilia and Yamaha in regard to test rider roles, however, turned these factories down and it is now understood that he will take a sabbatical year off for 2021.
Originally planned to test in 2021 and return to MotoGP in 2022 when many contract doors will be open, he now wants to take a year off and return in 2022, there is one problem, he will be 36 years old.
With more and more teams looking towards Moto2 and younger riders such as Garrett Gerloff, Dovizioso’s returning chances could be incredibly slim, but he remains the only rider to truly test Marc Marquez in the last three seasons, failing to perform to a championship fighting standard in 2020.
Official confirmation is expected in the coming days.
