MotoGP: Vinales: “These results make it impossible to think about the championship”

In the space of 7 days, Maverick Vinales has suffered highs and lows, winning at Misano to P9 at Catalunya.

Maverick Vinales is having a tough time at the moment, he has been struggling on race day all season and looked to have put his woes to bed at Misano Race 2, yet one week later, he was battling for P16 at one point despite starting in fifth.

Vinales had a tough start, beaten down to T1 by half the MotoGP field, he found himself playing catch up, re-doing the work he had done in qualifying to make sure he had a good race, he was not too happy, stating that the top speed is the problem with the Yamaha, “Our top speed is the weak point, I could not pass anyone, especially in the first 15 and 16 laps so I was just riding around.”

“I am very disappointed because if you don’t start first or second you have massive problems,” Vinales started the race in P5, not too bad of a position but as previously said, his race start was far than perfect, he was swamped into T1 by the grid and found it hard to recover, “I was in the middle of the Ducati’s and the Suzuki’s were so fast so you can do nothing but lose positions.”

“Coming from winning [last weekend], it’s hard to take this result, these results make it impossible to think about the championship, it’s so unstable, one weekend it’s great the next it isn’t.” Vinales currently lies in third place in the standings, 18 points behind leader Fabio Quartararo, a completely different story from last week when he was just 1 point behind leader Andrea Dovizioso who was taken out at turn 2 on the first lap.
