MotoGP: There is no chance for Jorge Lorenzo to ride for Ducati in 2021

It is safe to say, Jorge Lorenzo is not going to Ducati for 2021.

Ever since Andrea Dovizioso announced he was leaving Ducati, rumours have run rife of Jorge Lorenzo making a shock Ducati return to replace Dovizioso, rumours which make complete sense on paper, but are not logical when you look at it from another perspective.

Ducati themselves have confirmed that the only two riders in contention for the factory ride are Johann Zarco and Francesco Bagnaia, taking Jorge Lorenzo’s name completely out of the mix. Yet still, people are toying with the idea of Lorenzo returning to the manufacturer he took three wins for in 2018.

At the end of the 2019 season, Jorge Lorenzo retired from MotoGP following a season of running around at the back of the field, plagued by injuries, he felt racing was not worth the risk of injury any more to race at the back, he had lost the desire to race.

The five-time champion is signed to Yamaha as their 2020 test rider, however, has only managed to do a handful of laps on the machine given the COVID-19 pandemic with a planned wildcard for Catalunya which has now been cancelled with wildcards being banned for the 2020 season due to COVID-19.

Judging from the social media posts from Lorenzo, he seems to be enjoying his retired life, enjoying scenery, nice food and basking in the sunshine without the constant pressure of racing or keeping up a strict diet and fitness regime as seen below:

Judging from these, why would he want to return to racing, a stress filled lifestyle where he could potentially injure himself once again? Ducati have a bar which is set very high for riders, kicking Lorenzo out for Petrucci in 2018 will not be forgotten quickly by Lorenzo. Whereas now he gets to live life stress free.

It is safe to say that we are not going to see Jorge Lorenzo in Ducati red again, at least not for the foreseeable future.
