MotoGP Austria: Sam Lowes and Tony Arbolino lead the way in FP1

It was Marc VDS’ Sam Lowes and Snipers Team’s Tony Arbolino who got the weekend off to a good start leading the FP1 sessions for Moto2 and Moto3.

Sam Lowes comes off of the back of his first podium since 2016 to take P1 at Austria only 0.016 from Marco Bezzecchi.

In P3 was teammate to Lowes, Augusto Fernandez who is finally back to his 2019 form and was only 0.044 from P1.

The first rider out of the 0.100 bracket was Jorge Martin followed by Jorge Navarro in P5, the pair battling for name rights as ‘best Jorge’.

Remy Gardner is also showing a flash of form in P6, a rider who should be battling for the podium week in week out. He is followed by fast rookie Aron Canet.

Tetsuta Nagashima and Lorenzo Baldassarri occupy the P8 and P9 spots with Luca Marini capping off the top 10, 0.340 from P1.

From P1 to P20 were all under 1 second.

Tony Arbolino got his weekend off to a good start, leading the FP1 session, the rider took second place here last year and is looking to improve on that, finishing 0.291 faster than John McPhee.

Juame Masia is on the hunt for his first podium of the season with the Leopard team after his teammate won in Brno, Masia took third in the session followed by 2019 Rookie of the Year Celestino Vietti.

Moto3 Veteren Niccolo Antonelli took fifth place ahead of the two Red Bull KTM Ajo riders of Raul Fernandez and Kaito Toba respectively.

Next up was Andrea Migno ahead of surprising title leader Albert Arenas who has shocked everyone so far with a dominant display this season.

The top 10 was closed by Tatsuki Suzuki just 0.710 from P1.
