Andrea Dovizioso declared fit to ride at Jerez
Andrea Dovizioso has avoided his season getting off to the worst possible start by getting himself declared fit to ride at the MotoGP class opener at Jerez.
The Italian broke his collarbone in a motocross race at the Faenza circuit two weeks ago after a crash, and immediately went for surgery to stabilise the broken bone. He had gotten permission from Ducati to race at the event and was using it as training in the run-up to the Jerez rounds.
The 2020 season was already looking like it was going to be more difficult for the Ducati team, as they were trailing the Yamaha and Suzuki squads in the pre-season tests. The new Michelin rear tyre was suiting the inline-four engined bikes more, and the V4 bikes of Honda and Ducati were definitely not as strong as previous seasons.
Dovizioso comes into 2020 having been the championship leader each of the past two seasons after the first race of the year. Of course, both of these times it was at the Local International Circuit in Qatar, a track which suits the Ducati. Jerez, traditionally, has been a track where Ducati have struggled in the past, and with the Borgo Panigale outfit not having made their bike turn how they would like still, the question on everyone’s lips now, is whether Dovizioso can be close to fit for the entirety of the MotoGP race weekend, and if he can feature at the front like we know he is capable of!
