WorldSBK Misano Superpole Race: Rinaldi doubles up at home

Michael Ruben Rinaldi backs up a Race 1 victory with a Superpole win.

Michael Ruben Rinaldi took his first win for the Aruba.it squad in Race 1 at Misano, he’s now doubled up taking his second win for the team in the Superpole race at Misano, a track incredibly close to the home of the rider born in Rimini, it wasn’t an easy race with him once again trying an outside of T1 manoeuvre which aided him to the win yesterday but was bested by Toprak Razgatlioglu who led the race until Rinaldi got past with just 4 laps to go.

Rinaldi would win the race just 0.485 seconds from Razgatlioglu in P2, a great duel between the two to give the home rider the victory, Jonathan Rea finished the race in third place and continues his 100% podium record for 2021, the Northern Irishman is running away with the title this year already and seems to be completely unbeatable, his consistency is unrivalled, however with Toprak beating him in Race 1 and the Superpole race the championship lead has been cut down.

Scott Redding finished the race in fourth place being forced to watch his teammate win both races so far this weekend, not an ideal weekend but P4 isn’t the worst result in the world for the British rider who led Alex Lowes and an incredibly impressive Axel Bassani who once again impresses taking a 6th place finish improving on yesterdays record-setting P7 finish, the Italian rider was once again the top independent rider and at just 21-years-old we are expecting big things.

Tom Sykes was just behind him once again as he was yesterday with Garrett Gerloff coming home in P8, the American rider had a stunning race coming through from the back of the grid to finish the race in a very impressive P8, a performance to be proud of for the Texan rider who led rookie Andrea Locatelli with Alvaro Bautista beating his teammate for P10.

Eugene Laverty was allowed to start today’s race after a scary crash forced him out of the race yesterday and came home in an incredibly solid P13, really impressive from the Irishman.
