Moto2 Mugello Qualifying: Raul Fernandez, pole position wizard
He took the most pole position starts in Moto3 last year, he already has two this year.
Raul Fernandez made a huge name for himself last year in Moto3 taking the most pole positions out of anyone, this year as a rookie he already has two taking his first last time out at Le Mans before doubling up at Mugello. The Spaniard has stormed onto the scene this year in Moto2 adapting incredibly quickly and taking two race wins already after five completed races, he is also only one point from the championship leader and his teammate Remy Gardner who starts from P4 tomorrow, we could be seeing a rookie title leader in both Moto3 and Moto2 after the races tomorrow.
One man who is trying to put a stop to this is Sam Lowes in second place, the British rider has made some huge mistakes as of recent which has seen him plummet down the championship standings, if he can rectify these and get back to winning ways tomorrow it will dramatically improve his championship fight which has seen him slip to fourth place overall, joining the duo on the front row is Jorge Navarro who’s reputation as a crasher continues into 2021, thankfully a front row start and bags of confidence should hopefully put him in good stead for a podium tomorrow.
Remy Gardner leads row two and will get to stare at the backside of his teammate just ahead of him whilst sat on the grid, Remy will have to beat his teammate tomorrow if he wants to stay as the title leader in the intermediate class. Fabio Di Giannantonio takes fifth place with his stunning helmet design which is a merge of his 2016 design where he took his first podium and his old boss Fausto Gresini who tragically lost his life this year, ‘Diggia’ is also running a matching boot and glove combo to compliment the design, he finished ahead of Tony Arbolino in P6 who has made some huge steps as of recent to fly up the championship order, Arbolino finished in P4 last time out, is a podium on home soil now on the cards for the Italian?
Marco Bezzecchi heads row three, the Italian sitting in third place in the championship. He has lots of ground to make up tomorrow to get ahead of the two riders directly in front of him on the grid who are currently leading the championship, joining Bezzecchi on row three are Xavi Vierge and Marcel Schrotter.
Joe Roberts was the 10th fastest rider leading his teammate Lorenzo Dalla Porta in P11, both riders will be praying for a good result to come their way after not performing as expected so far this year.
Further down in P15 is the incredibly impressive Fermin Aldeguer, the 16-year-old born in April is the youngest rider in the class at only 16 years and 8 weeks old and is beating riders who have more years of experience than Fermin has of age, looking at you Luthi. Aldeguer topped the Q1 session before qualifying in a strong P15 ahead of tomorrow, lets just say many people have their eyes on him now, his Q1 time would’ve qualified him in P11 on debut.
