MotoGP Teams reveal 75th Anniversary Liveries ahead of British GP

MotoGP teams have revealed their special 75th anniversary liveries ahead of the British Grand Prix, with homages to classic liveries, riders and bikes in history.

This year, to celebrate the 75th anniversary of MotoGP, the teams have all come together before the British Grand Prix to showcase their liveries which will race this weekend, as Francesco Bagnaia looks to defend his small 10-point lead over Jorge Martin.

Ducati

Ducati revealed their special anniversary livery, which features a red and white colour scheme, with the white on the side of the lower side of the bike, much like Ducati used to do with the Marlboro sponsorship back in the late 1990’s and throughout the 2000’s with the block of white on the side of the motorcycle. The numbers on the front of the bike are also both in white, similar to the #65 bike of Loris Capirossi for example, back in the 2000’s.

 

VR46 Racing

VR46’s special livery, is paying homage to their team owner, Valentino Rossi. More specifically, the bike appears to be taking the colour scheme and design from Rossi’s 2018 MotoGP helmet, the Sole e Luna 2018. The bike features a sun on one side, and the moon on the other in Rossi’s classic yellow. Fabio Di Giannantonio is also riding with a special helmet this weekend, a colour-reversed version of the Sole e Luna 2018 design.

 

Red Bull Factory KTM

Red Bull KTM’s design is based on the KTM LC4. The bike was designed by Wolfgang Felber, who is now KTM’s vice president of road technology, designed the KTM LC4 with a white and blue colour scheme, which was also incorporated into KTM’s overall brand logo and became the Austrian manufacturers colour scheme in the mid 1990’s, before deciding to go with the famous orange colour scheme in 1996.

 

Red Bull GasGas KTM

Red Bull GasGas KTM have also moved away from their red design with a Red Bull sponsored stripe, to incorporate more of the white design that the Factory KTM team are also running, with an emphasis on the GasGas and Red Bull sponsors.

 

Repsol Honda

Repsol Honda are running a very special celebration livery based on Freddie Spencer’s 500cc Championship-Winning 1983 Honda NS500, featuring a classic yellow front panel for the rider number, as well as the dark blue, red and white colour scheme, with blue at the top of the bike, white towards the bottom and separated by a red stripe. There will also be the rider’s number on the side of the bike, just like the 1983 Honda NS500, which will certainly help spectators to identify which of the two bikes are on track.

 

LCR Honda

LCR Honda have gone for separate liveries for Johann Zarco and Takaaki Nakagami. Zarco’s #5 Honda is a tribute to Mike Hailwood’s 1966 Honda 250cc, with modern sponsors added. Hailwood’s 1966 Honda had Honda’s red and white colour scheme, with a green number patch on the side of the bike. Zarco’s machine will run predominantly with the Castrol green on the side of the bike, with the red and white colour scheme at the top of the motorcycle. Nakagami’s Honda takes inspiration from Honda’s home country of Japan, running in a special red and white livery with their modern sponsors on the side. Both bikes will also run with a number on their side panels, much like Repsol Honda’s retro livery.

 

Yamaha

Yamaha have opted to go with the iconic red and white livery that became synonymous with the brand throughout the 1970’s as Giacomo Agostini took multiple championship victories with Yamaha. We last saw a similar version of this special anniversary livery, when Cal Crutchlow tested for Yamaha in 2021. Once again, in similar fashion to Honda, there will be the yellow plates on the side of the bike indicating the rider number and making each bike more recognisable. Like other teams, the modern sponsors remain on the motorcycle, giving a modernised take on one of their classic liveries.

Prima Pramac

Based on Angel Nieto’s 1983 125cc Championship-Winning bike, Prima Pramac Ducati will be running with this red and black unique livery in tribute to the late Spaniard and 12-time World Champion across classes. Angel Nieto is also the uncle of the team’s Sporting Director, Fonsi Nieto.

Gresini Racing

Gresini Racing are paying tribute to their late founder, Fausto Gresini, who founded the team in 1997 and was their Team Principal until he passed away in 2021. The bike features the “il Tricolore” design that Fausto Gresini used whilst taking the 125cc World Championship in both 1985 and 1987.

 

Aprilia

Aprilia have gone with a tribute to the iconic livery that Max Biaggi used on his way to winning three championships in a row, taking the 250cc World Championships in 1994, 1995 and 1996. The iconic black, red and yellow contrast beautifully in an incredibly unique and eye-catching livery.

Trackhouse Racing

Trackhouse Racing are in their debut season and therefore don’t have any retro liveries, but the American team have paid tribute to some of America’s greatest MotoGP riders, with the faces of Kevin Schwantz, Kenny Roberts, Wayne Rainey and Freddie Spencer among a few others on the side of the blue bike.

The British Grand Prix weekend starts on Friday, with a Saturday Sprint Race and lights out on Sunday for the Grand Prix at 13:00 BST.
