MotoGP San Marino at Misano – Preview, Session Times and Where to Watch?

MotoGP returns this weekend for the San Marino Grand Prix at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli. In this article, you will find the session times and where you can watch all the action throughout the weekend.

With Francesco Bagnaia crashing out last time in the Aragon GP, Jorge Martin holds a healthy lead in the championship, as Bagnaia seeks to cut the lead down once again. Meanwhile, Marc Marquez will be looking to continue his momentum from Aragon, after topping every single session.

The Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli – Circuit Details

Named after the late, great, Marco Simoncelli who raced in MotoGP in the early 2010’s, and achieved two podium finishes in 2011 before his life would be tragically lost in a crash at the 2011 Malaysian Grand Prix – the Misano World Circuit boasts one of the best and most iconic venues on the MotoGP calendar. 16 corners, with 10 to the right and 6 to the left – The circuit certainly suits riders who favour their right hand side.

The main overtaking hotspots will be at Turns 1 and 2, the fast flowing nature coming off the home straight allows for riders to take multiple different types of offensive and defensive lines into the opening corners, with a fast right-hander of Turn 3 leading to another overtaking hotspot, the tight Turn 4 right-hander.

Turn 8’s slow left-hander coming after the main back straight will also be another main overtaking zone, with the double right of Turns 9 and 10 likely also producing an opportunity for a rider to outbrake another. Turn 11’s flat out “Curvone” corner is also one of the more difficult overtaking zones, however it is not an unfamiliar sight to see riders attempting a move at this corner.

Turn 14’s somewhat slow right-hander is also the final late-braking opportunity for riders to pass, with many different racing lines also being available at this corner. The final corner at Turn 16 is an incredibly unlikely overtaking zone, but we have seen overtakes at this corner before, like Marc Marquez attempted on Nico Bulega at the Ducati Race of Champions just one month ago.

Can Bagnaia regain control of the Championship?

With Francesco Bagnaia having a thoroughly difficult race weekend at Aragon, struggling in the Sprint Race after grip issues, and crashing with Alex Marquez in the Grand Prix – Bagnaia now sits 22 points adrift in the championship, with Jorge Martin leading the way. A victory at Bagnaia’s home country would almost certainly give the Italian the confidence to regain control of the championship, as we approach the final few months in the season.

Jorge Martin will not be riding on a Ducati for the 2025 season, opting to switch to Aprilia at the end of this year. Therefore, Bagnaia will likely receive more assistance from the Ducati team, as the Italian manufacturer based in Bologna would not want the Number 1 plate on the front of the bike, to be taken elsewhere to another manufacturer.

Can Marc Marquez Maintain Momentum?

Eight-Time champion Marc Marquez took his first win since 2021 just last weekend at the Aragon GP, and will almost certainly be looking to carry his momentum into the next round. Marquez sits 70 points away from the championship leader Jorge Martin, and whilst the Spaniard is certainly unlikely to win the championship, the Gresini Ducati rider will likely attempt to string some results together before the end of the year.
