MotoGP Algarve Race: Francesco Bagnaia wins snoozefest
Francesco Bagnaia dominates in Algavre from pole to victory.
MotoGP or F1? We don’t even know today at Algarve where we saw 90% of the grid finish the race where they qualified or a position or two higher following some crashes from riders including Fabio Quartararo and Aleix Espargaro. This was Quartararo’s first DNF of the entire season after an impeccable title challenge, the world champion started the race way down the order in P7 and was unable to capitalise on the opening laps to make up positions, eventually crashing out after getting past Jorge Martin for P7.
The race started as it ended honestly, Bagnaia disappeared off into the distance with Jorge Lorenzo-Esque speed dominating with consistent lap times to manage a 2.5-second gap over Joan Mir, the ex-MotoGP champion passing Jack Miller on the opening lap and sending him backwards into the clutches of Alex Marquez who had an excellent race.
Marquez was able to fight against Jack Miller for the final podium spot, the pair trading places like it was 2014 all over again, sadly Alex was unable to execute his strategy following a red flag from Iker Lecuona and Miguel Oliveira, Marquez taking home P4.
Johann Zarco wrapped up the independent championship to be crowned the independent champion, not something I am sure he will be too bothered about leading Pol Espargaro in the race. Further back Enea Bastiaini locked up a P9 finish, really solid for the rookie.
