Moto3 Jerez FP2: Gabriel Rodrigo goes top
Gabriel Rodrigo takes the top spot in Moto3 FP2.
It’s a day of the veterans today in Moto3 as Antonelli leads FP1 and Rodrigo FP2, both riders occupying the top 2 spots of both sessions with a large 0.256 gap between them in the FP2 session. It was actually a veterans 1-2-3 in the Moto3 FP2 session as Fenati joined the old-timers club in third place, the trio using their knowledge and experience of the circuit to their advantage.
Thankfully there was some youth at the top of the timesheets as Jason Dupasquier slotted into P4 a hefty 0.421 seconds from Rodrigo’s fastest time, the young Swiss rider making massive improvements in 2021, he and his teammate Rysuei Yamanaka sandwiched in the unfortunate Darryn Binder who was between the pair on the timesheets in P5 as Yamanaka goes sixth overall.
Andrea Migno was the seventh-placed rider ahead of championship leader Pedro Acosta who will leave Jerez with the title lead no matter what happens thanks to his 31 point advantage. Red Bull locked out the P8 to P11 spaces as Acosta, Oncu, Masia and Sasaki all lined up together on the timesheets in that order.
Jeremy Alcoba improved on this morning’s P20 finishing in P13 as rookies Guevara and Artigas finish in P17 and P19 respectively, Guevara taking the win here last year in only his fourth Junior Moto3 World Championship race.
