MotoGP: Takaaki Nakagami: “I hope to fight for the podium”
With 10 rounds down and just 4 left, Takaaki Nakagami remains the most consistent rider of the season, still in the title fight.
We say it every race, and every race he continues to impress us, Takaaki Nakagami takes P5 in Aragon, his second-best result of the season following his P4 at Andalucia. Yet he stays without a podium still in the season but has finished every single race within the top 10,
He is the only rider in the top 16 of the championship to not have taken a single podium yet this season with 15 riders in total standing on the podium, despite this, he remains incredibly motivated to take his first podium in his MotoGP class career and has just 4 chances left this season to do so.
Speaking about his podium chances, he feels quite confident in this and remains hopeful to take a podium after having the pace to do so for several races now.
“When Alex overtook me in the last corner I was very surprised, I stayed behind him for a few laps but he was a few tenths faster than me.
At the end [of the race] I tried to push and bit by bit I closed the gap to Franco [Morbidelli] and saw Mir and Vinales ahead who were slower than me.”
“I did the best I could and in the last lap and the last corner I overtook Franco and took P5 with the top independent, this is a great result and I am very happy. Let’s see what we can do next race I hope to fight for the podium.”
