MotoGP: Moto2: Jorge Martin passes COVID-19 test, will continue championship fight at Catalunya
Moto2 title contender Jorge Martin will return to racing at Catalunya after missing the 2 Misano races.
Jorge Martin’s Moto2 title hopes were majorly damaged on the eve of the Misano Grand Prix weekend as the Spanish rider was diagnosed with COVID-19, meaning he was not allowed to race in the first race at Misano, dropping a potential 25 points following two successful race weekends at Austria.
Martin’s return for the second race at Misano was pending a negative COVID-19 test, however, on the Thursday before the race weekend, it was announced that Martin once again had tested positive for COVID-19, meaning Italian rider Mattia Pasini would step in to replace the rider.
Leaving the Styrian GP, Martin was just 8 points behind title leader Luca Marini with a win and a P2 at the 2 races at Austria, closing the championship up. Missing these two races at Misano has meant that Martin has dropped a potential 50 points with title leader Luca Marini scoring 38/50 points, opening up a 46 point championship lead over Martin, majorly damaging his chances of winning the Moto2 championship.
However Martin has passed the COVID-19 test, testing negative for the virus, meaning he will be allowed to return to the Moto2 scene in Catalunya to attempt to regain these championship points in the remaining races, a fight he will not let Marini win easily.
